AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX - FREE PRACTICE #1
The first session got underway with clouds looming overhead. No sign of rain yet but there is a potential for it. Mercedes led the session with Nico Rosberg topping the time sheets in 1st with a 1:07.303. A time much quicker than last year. Hamilton finished in 2nd and Vettel in the Ferrari rounded up the top 3.
Daniel Ricciardo and Marcus Ericsson had a close call while Ericsson was heading for pit-lane. He momentarily lost control of the car and went over the white line. Ricciardo was near by and the two nearly collided. Ericsson was later investigated for the incident.
Max Verstappen ended up missing quite a lot of the session after he ran over one of the new yellow kerbs and lost a piece of his front wing and ended up with suspension damage. He spun into the gravel and that was his session over. He wasn't the only driver to spin in the session. Ricciardo, Kvyat, Hamilton and Grosjean all also had a spin or two but managed to get back on track.
Alfonso Celis sat in for Sergio Perez at Force India. Celis has multiple FP1 outings in his contract this year and is hoping to be a candidate for a future drive with the team. Perez is currently being linked to Ferrari rumours since his recent podiums in Monaco and Baku.
