Marcus Ericsson halted Q2 after spinning off the track, then re-joining and making a mess of the gravel. The session was red flagged so the area of the circuit could be swept, before it continued.

Azerbaijan GP: Qualifying - RE-CAP & RESULTS

AZERBAIJAN GP - QUALIFYING - RE-CAP & RESULTS

    Sebastian Vettel took another pole position while other drivers dealt with near-misses and penalties ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

    Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley nearly collided in Q1 after Hartley tapped the walls and was trailing with a puncture. Gasly managed to swerve out of the way but it was an overall disastrous qualifying for the Italian team.

    Hulkenberg and Grosjean both received a 5-Place-Grid-Penalty for unscheduled gearbox changes. 

    Grosjean and Hartley had to get permission from the stewards to race after failing to get a time in that was within the 107% regulation. Grosjean, in fact, did not set a time at all in qualifying due to a gearbox failure.

    Sebastian Vettel scored another pole position while Mercedes had to settle for the second row of the grid. Daniel Ricciardo, who suffered from an engine failure in FP3, barely made it out in time for Q1 and ended up securing 6th.

    Marcus Ericsson received a 5-Place-Grid-Penalty after ignoring yellow flags after his team-mate, Leclerc, spun out in Q1. Ericsson had finished 20th in Q1 so his position was not compromised.

AUSTRALIAN GP - QUALIFYING - RE-CAP & RESULTS

    Lewis Hamilton took pole position for the first race of the season while Ricciardo and Bottas suffered grid penalties. 

    Ricciardo was handed a 3-Place-Grid-Penalty for failing to slow sufficiently under red flags in Free Practice #2 and Bottas ended up with a 5-Place-Grid-Penalty after crashing out of Q3 early on in the session caused damage to the car which resulted in a gearbox change.

HOW IT WORKS:

    It was Valtteri Bottas who took pole position ahead of the last race of the season. Team-mate, Hamilton, finished just behind in 2nd. Newly signed Toro Rosso driver, Brendon Hartley, endured another grid penalty due to more engine component changes.
