We are now officially one session into the Singapore Grand Prix weekend. The session started out with a beautiful sunset before turning into night event that it is. There were a few interesting things going on, including Rosberg grabbing his loose right mirror from the frame, and throwing the piece of glass on to the circuit. Not sure if that will be investegated later on.
Esteban Gutierrez sat out all but 20 minutes of this session unwillingly, due to a Control Unit issue, which Sauber luckily and promptly fixed, allowing the young driver to complete enough laps to land him the 16th slot on the time-sheets.
3 more unlucky drivers were Kimi Raikkonen, who endured a brake fire late in the session, Jean-Eric Vergne who had some brake problems as well and then Sebastian Vettel who had to pull his car off at the pit-lane entry after his last lap with what he reported was an Engine Failure.
Fernando Alonso broke a streak of Mercedes being 1-2 for 7 consecutive FP1 sessions in a row.
Here are the times from the session.
