MEXICAN GP - FREE PRACTICE #2 - RE-CAP & TIMES

Max Verstappen once again led the pack, taking the top time in the second practice session of the Mexican GP weekend. This time it was a 1:16.720 that placed him in first, ahead of his team-mate. Despite this, he was unable to finish the session as his car lost power in the remaining minutes, due to a hydraulics problem.

Ricciardo was close behind with a 1:16.873, ahead of Carlos Sainz who once again took third place as he had in the earlier session. His quickest time was a 1:17.953, putting him ahead of Sebastian Vettel and Nico Hulkenberg, who rounded up the top 5.

Mercedes once again struggled with the pace. Lewis Hamilton finished the session in 7th with a 1:18.100, while Bottas was a couple places further down in 9th with a 1:18.140.

Pierre Gasly had a better running in this session than in FP1 where he was limited to just 2 non-timed laps due to power unit issues. This time around he finished in 14th with a 1:19.047. Team-mate, Hartley, finished up in 6th with a 1:18.061. Toro Rosso has yet to announce if Hartley will continue with the team in 2019 or not.

Pierre Gasly in the Toro Rosso was second fastest with a 1:49.728, followed by Max Verstappen, Fernando Alonso and Nico Hulkenberg.

It wasn't the usual Mercedes & Ferrari top 4 that people are used to seeing but running was limited and some teams didn't even have proper tyres to use.

    Hartley finished 6th with a 1:52.505 and Vandoorne was 8th with a 1:53.354.

Sainz, Bottas, Ricciardo and the Haas duo of Grosjean and Magnussen all failed to set a time in the session.

Japanese GP: Free Practice #2 - RE-CAP & TIMES

JAPANESE GP: FREE PRACTICE #2 - RE-CAP & TIMES

Lewis Hamilton topped the second practice session of the weekend, finishing with a quickest time of 1:28.217.

Valtteri Bottas was close behind in 2nd with a 1:28.678. Coming in third was Sebastian Vettel, who was followed by Max Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen.

Stoffel Vandoorne was back in the car after handing it over to Lando Norris in the first session. The Belgian driver finished the session in 20th, as Norris had done earlier in the day. His quickest time was a 1:31.981.

Pierre Gasly missed out on most of the session due to a fuel pump problem. His car was worked on for quite awhile before he managed to get in a small bit of running. Despite this he still finished in 13th with a 1:30.795.

Gasly's team-mate, Hartley, finished a few spaces ahead of him in 10th, with a time of 1:30.502. Hartley is still facing an uncertain future as he has not been confirmed with a team yet for 2019. It is looking more and more likely that the Toro Rosso line-up for next year will be Daniil Kvyat, who is already confirmed and possibly Sergey Sirotkin, making it an All-Russian line-up.

Ricciardo, Ocon, Grosjean and Ericsson also finished in the top 10.

Kimi Raikkonen topped the second practice session of the weekend, taking Ferrari to the top with a 1:38.699.

Lewis Hamilton came 2nd with a 1:38.710, ahead of the Red Bull duo of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo. Valtteri Bottas completed the top 5 with a 1:39.368.

Sebastian Vettel experienced a minor crash that resulted in a leak for his Ferrari. It ended his session a bit early but he was still able to secure 9th with a fastest time of 1:40.633.

Charles Leclerc was able to get out for this session after his FP1 crash that left his Sauber damaged. The team was able to fix it up and send him on his way. He ended in 14th with a 1:41.062. Team-mate, Ericsson, was a couple of spaces ahead in 12th with a 1:40.812.

Italian GP: Free Practice #2 - RE-CAP & TIMES

ITALIAN GP - FREE PRACTICE #2 - RE-CAP & TIMES

The second free practice session of the weekend got off to a terrifying start when Sauber driver, Marcus Ericsson, had a heavy crash only a few minutes into the session.

Ericcson lost his car near turn 1 and slid along the grass before getting airborne. The Sauber flipped multiple times, bounced on the grass and then flipped a few more times before finally coming to a rest right-side-up.

It took a few moments, but Ericsson was able to climb out of the car. He was taken to the medical centre right away and it was confirmed he hadn't been injured. He also went on to confirm this himself via a Sauber video message online.

The accident caused the session to be red flagged while Ericsson's car was removed and the barriers were fixed. The track also needed to be cleared of debris.

The reasoning behind the crash was that the DRS flap had failed to close. Leclerc went on the radio when the session resumed, to announce he was experiencing a similar issue and the team brought him into the pits promptly.

Sebastian Vettel also experienced a crash but in a lesser severity. He spun off the track and tapped the barriers, ending his session. Despite this, he still had the quickest time with a 1:21.105

Kimi Raikkonen was again in 2nd with a 1:21.375.

Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were 3rd and 4th respectively while Max Verstappen completed the top 5 with a 1:22.154.

Racing Point Force India had another glorious session with both drivers in the top 10. Ocon finished in 7th while Perez was right behind in 8th.

Ricciardo, Leclerc and Nico Hulkenberg were also in the top 10.

Belgian GP: Free Practice #2 - RE-CAP & TIMES

BELGIAN GP - FREE PRACTICE #2 - RE-CAP & TIMES

Kimi Raikkonen led the way in the second practice session of the Belgian GP weekend.

The Ferrari driver set a 1:43.355 to put himself in 1st, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

The two Mercedes drivers proved once again to be in top shape as they held on to 2nd and 3rd on the time-sheets.

Max Verstappen came 4th with a 1:44.046, ahead of Sebastian Vettel, who finished in 5th with a 1:44.129.

Fernando Alonso was back in his McLaren after Lando Norris had a go in it for FP1. Alonso, who will leave F1 after this season, finished in 16th with a 1:46.153. Team-mate, Vandoorne, endured more car issues, resulting in the team even having to change the floor. Vandoorne finished last again with a 1:46.496.

Wasting no time to show that they still have the pace, Marcus Ericsson and Charles Leclerc both finished in the top 10. Ericsson, in 9th, placed a 1:45.537 while Leclerc was right behind in 10th with a 1:45.622. The question still looms if Leclerc will be wearing red next year or if he will remain with the Swiss team for at least one more season.

One driver who doesn't have to worry about his future is Pierre Gasly, who is freshly signed to Red Bull Racing for 2019 onward. The young French driver finished the session in 15th with a 1:46.080, while team-mate, Hartley, was a few spaces behind in 17th.

Hungarian GP: Free Practice #2 - RE-CAP & TIMES

HUNGARIAN GP - FREE PRACTICE #2 - RE-CAP & TIMES

Sebastian Vettel beat Max Verstappen to the top of the times in the second free practice session ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Vettel’s 1m16.834s lap was just 0.074s faster than the Red Bull driver, who set the pace early in the session on the soft compound of tyres.

As the field switched to the ultrasoft compound, neither Verstappen nor team-mate Daniel Ricciardo could quite match Vettel’s pace.

The pair slotted into second and third, with Ricciardo almost two tenths of a second slower than his team-mate.

Kimi Raikkonen took fourth ahead of the Mercedes duo, both of whom had to abort their qualifying simulations after struggling with the rear end.

Hamilton, who’s time on the soft compound of tyre put him P5, ran wide at the final right-hand corner during his run on the ultra soft tyres. The mistake cost him more than a second and his lap was slower than that on the soft compound.

Team-mate Valtteri Bottas also suffered with the rear end, and had to settle for P6 after abandoning his own lap.

Haas’ Romain Grosjean was best of the rest, with his 1m18.065s enough to put him seventh, ahead of Carlos Sainz, Pierre Gasly, and Esteban Ocon.

Sergio Perez narrowly missed out on the top 10, his best time just 0.089s slower than team-mate Ocon’s.

Fernando Alonso took 12th, ahead of Kevin Magnussen, Nico Hulkenberg, Brendon Hartley and Marcus Ericsson.

Charles Leclerc was back on duty for Sauber, with Antonio Giovinazzi taking his seat in FP1. The rookie was 17th quickest, 0.094s slower than Ericsson.

Lance Stroll, Stoffel Vandoorne, and Sergey Sirotkin completed the order.

German GP: Free Practice #2 - RE-CAP & TIMES

GERMAN GP - FREE PRACTICE #2 - RE-CAP & TIMES

While Daniel Ricciardo had topped the first practice session, this time around it was his younger team-mate, Max Verstappen.

The Dutch driver set a fastest time of 1:13.085, breaking the track's lap record. He was followed by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, who are both freshly re-signed to Mercedes.

Sebastian Vettel was once again 4th, with a 1:13.310. Raikkonen followed right behind with a 1:13.427.

Max Verstappen may have been up in front, but Ricciardo was down in 13th, setting a 1:14.682. Ricciardo will start the race from the back, due to multiple engine component changes. The Australian also avoided a huge collision with Sergey Sirotkin during the session.

Haas was once again in the top 10 thanks to both drivers. Grosjean finished in 6th with a 1:13.973 and Magnussen in 7th with a 1:14.189. There's no word on who will be driving for the American team in 2019, but Haas has confirmed that they will not be taking part in the test set to take place after next week's Hungarian Grand Prix.

Stoffel Vandoorne has so-far had a frustrating weekend, finishing both sessions down in 20th. His quickest time was a 1:15.454. Team-mate, Alonso, was only a few spaces ahead in 17th with a 1:14.836.

After missing the opening session for reserve drivers, Marcus Ericsson and Esteban Ocon returned to their cars to drive on the circuit for the first time this weekend. Ericsson, in the Sauber, grabbed the 14th quickest time while Ocon in the pink Force India, finished in 10th, one space ahead of his team-mate, Perez, who was 11th quickest with a 1:14.552.

Leclerc was once again in the top 10, this time in 8th with a 1:14.374. The young Monegasque driver continues to impress the Swiss team and other teams as well. While Leclerc could move to Ferrari in 2019, it is also rumoured that he might stay at Sauber for another year and partner Italian driver, Antonio Giovinazzi.

Gasly and Hartley, the Toro Rosso duo, finished 15th and 16th respectively, putting in better times than in the first session. Gasly put in a 1:14.793 while Hartley was close with a 1:14.830.

British GP: Free Practice #2 - RE-CAP & TIMES

BRITISH GP - FREE PRACTICE #2 - RE-CAP & TIMES

Sebastian Vettel led the second free practice session of the weekend, while Mercedes followed closely behind.

The Ferrari driver clocked the fastest time of 1:27.552. Lewis Hamilton finished in second with a 1:27.739 and Bottas in third.

Kimi Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo completed the top 5 with the Australian in 5th with a 1:28.408. His team-mate, Verstappen, ended the session without setting a time. The Dutch driver crashed into the barriers, bringing out the red flags. While he was able to get out of the car without any injury, his session was over early.

Romain Grosjean, who had crashed pretty heavily in FP1, didn't even go out in FP2 due to the damage that his Haas had sustained. The team was unable to get the car ready in time for him to join the session. Meanwhile, Kevin Magnussen put in the 12th fastest time: a 1:29.617.

The session couldn't end without one more spot of drama. This time it was Pierre Gasly. While the French driver didn't crash, he experienced a technical issue with his Toro Rosso and ended up stopping the car to the side of the track. He still managed to finish in 13th with a 1:29.831. Team-mate, Hartley, finished in 18th.

Alonso, Hulkenberg, Leclerc and both Force India drivers also finished within the top 10.
