The last practice session for the Austrian GP proved to be quite different from the first two as the clouds loomed over the circuit and soon began to shed rainfall, making the track wet and slippery. The drivers got to put on the wet and/or intermediate tyre compounds while also having the choices of the main compounds brought for this weekend which are the Soft & Super-Soft tyres.
Ferrari once again proved pace with Vettel leading the time sheets while team-mate, Raikkonen finished third. It was not a Mercedes 1-2 this time around.
McLaren faced more technical woes when Fernando Alonso's car stopped on the starting grid, causing a Red Flag and delaying the session until the McLaren could be brought back to the pit-lane. The team is facing a total of a 50-place-grid-penalty between both Alonso & Button after both drivers used 5th and even 6th elements for their cars and Alonso also required a gearbox change after this session.
