British GP: Driver Preview Quotes - Sauber

DRIVER PREVIEW QUOTES - SAUBER F1 TEAM

Marcus Ericsson - “After (Austria) we head directly to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix. With its technical demand, historical heritage and passionate crowds, the so called home of British motor racing is one of the most traditional circuits where we race Formula One cars.”

Felipe Nasr - “Silverstone is a circuit which I enjoy driving on. It’s one of my favourite tracks. Not only, because I have been living in England for more than five years, but also because it’s always nice to come back to where motorsport and its great fans are at home.”

British GP: Driver Preview Quotes - Force India

DRIVER PREVIEW QUOTES - SAHARA FORCE INDIA F1 TEAM

Nico Hulkenberg - “I’m still feeling disappointed with the result in Austria. When you start on the front row you obviously have big hopes for the race, but things just didn’t work out for us. Fortunately we have Silverstone this week so I can get back in the car and focus on getting a good result.

The team’s home race is always a busy weekend because our factory is next to the track. It’s one of those special races because the grandstands are full, there’s a buzzing atmosphere and the energy of the fans gives you a real boost. We usually visit one of the campsites and it’s great to meet the fans and have a chat - you always see how much they love the sport. I love driving at Silverstone and the circuit is a real challenge. The fast sections are very enjoyable and corners such as Maggots and Becketts are some of the best of the season where you feel the true performance of an F1 car.”

Sergio Perez - “The last race was very exciting, but sadly it was one lap too long for me. I may have lost some points, but there were a lot of positives from my race and I feel confident for Silverstone and the rest of the season. Silverstone is one of the best tracks of the year. I think all the drivers say it’s one of their favourites. There is so much history and all the great drivers have raced and won there. For me it’s very important that we keep going back to these historic circuits because they helped make Formula One what it is today.

Silverstone is a track that really tests aero performance. We’ve made good progress with the car in this area so I think we can be competitive once again. Another big factor for Silverstone is the unpredictable British weather. I remember in 2012 when it rained so much on the Saturday and qualifying had to be delayed, but the fans never lost their enthusiasm. They always help create a great atmosphere.”

British GP: Driver Preview Quotes - Red Bull

DRIVER PREVIEW QUOTES - RED BULL RACING FORMULA 1 TEAM

Daniel Ricciardo - “I really do love Silverstone, it has always been a track I’ve loved since my early days driving there. I love street circuits, but equally I love high-speed corners and fast circuits and Silverstone has got some of the best on the calendar in Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel. They’re fun and they require a lot of commitment. If you’ve got a good car behind you feel every bit of its force and potential.”

Max Verstappen - “Driving at Silverstone feels a little bit like Spa, it’s old-school but also has newly built facilities and modern run-off areas. When you do a really nice, clean lap there it feels pretty special, especially through the fast sections. It’s a real drivers’ track there. You arrive to the corners with a lot of speed so it’s very difficult to find the right line and the track is always changing so you have to adapt to the circumstances. It’s very challenging.”

Austrian GP: Race - Re-Cap & Results

AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX - RACE

Lewis Hamilton started off the race with a quick start, eager to try and win his third race in a row and close the gap in the Drivers' standings. Nico Hulkenberg, who started 2nd, had a less than perfect start and began dropping back spaces as other cars passed him during the first lap. Pascal Wehrlein, who had qualified 12th, also had a bad start when his car stalled on the grid. For Williams, there was problems before the race even started. Mechanics were still working on Massa's car on the grid and were forced to move the car to pit-lane to finish working on it, before he finally got out on track.

Only 2 laps in, Daniil Kvyat was the first retirement due to a mechanical issue. Kvyat wasn't the only driver to have his race ended early. Many more retirements followed during the race. Sebastian Vettel, who had been running as high as 1st place, was suddenly sent spinning on the track after a sudden tyre failure. While Vettel emerged from the surprising accident without injury, it was clear he wasn't happy about the situation and loss of a potential win.

It was also a disappointing day for Force India, who had their first double DNF of the season. Both Perez and Hulkenberg retired due to brake issues. Hulkenberg had been reporting odd vibrations and halfway through the race went in to the pits to retire the car. Perez didn't have an issue until the final laps of the race when his brakes suddenly failed and he crashed quite heavily into the barriers. Perez was OK after the accident but disappointed as he had been running in the points.

Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso also retired from the race. Massa with a brake failure of his own and Alonso due to battery issues. Their team-mates, Valtteri Bottas and Jenson Button both finished in the points.

In the closing laps, Lewis Hamilton found himself chasing down Nico Rosberg, who was currently leading the race. Max Verstappen was close behind both Mercedes drivers and looking to score his second podium of the year. With one lap left, Lewis Hamilton took his only chance to pass Rosberg and managed to get around him. Rosberg quickly fought back but things ended up in a collision between the two and Rosberg was left with damage to the front of his Mercedes. Hamilton escaped without any damage and crossed the finish line in 1st. Verstappen finished 2nd, giving Red Bull a huge reason to celebrate their home race. Kimi Raikkonen finished 3rd while Rosberg dragged his Mercedes home in 4th.

Rosberg was later penalized for the collision and given 10 seconds added to his final race time. He retained his 4th place finish despite this, but was also handed 2 penalty points to his license. Romain Grosjean was also a given a time penalty. 5 seconds added to his race time for speeding in the pit-lane.

Pascal Wehrlein finished the race in 10th, scoring Manor's first point of the season and recording his best ever F1 finish. A huge reason for celebration in the Manor garage. Wehrlein has been tied to a potential Mercedes deal in 2018 and his race results with Manor are helping him prove he deserves to be placed in a higher team in upcoming years.

Austrian GP: Qualifying - Re-Cap & Results

AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX - QUALIFYING

Lewis Hamilton will start from Pole Position after a slightly rainy qualifying, which saw Daniil Kvyat spin out and crash into the barriers after his rear suspension broke. Kvyat will start from Pit-Lane due to needed chassis and gearbox replacements. Sergio Perez also suffered a suspension failure and found himself out in Q1. However, he was able to set a time and was not given a penalty and will start from 16th.

Carlos Sainz also missed out on a chance at Q2 after his engine failed during Q1. Nico Hulkenberg will start 2nd and Button 3rd as Rosberg and Vettel both have grid penalties for gearbox changes. Pascal Wehrlein managed a personal best qualifying result and will start 12th. A great progress for Manor.

Q2 = 15 minutes. The remaining cars go out. At the end of the session, the six slowest are eliminated.

Austrian GP: Free Practice 3 - Re-Cap & Times

AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX - FREE PRACTICE #3

No rain for the final practice session of the Austrian GP weekend. It was an overall quiet and good session apart from a red flag caused by a crash from Nico Rosberg, who spun out and tagged the barriers after a suspension failure. The suspension failure is said to have been caused by the kerbing. The yellow 'Sausage' kerbs have been a concern this weekend and discussed by many. However, after being examined by Charlie Whiting and a few others, the FIA has concluded nothing will be changed before the race.

It was a change at the top of the time sheets, with Ferrari taking both the top spots with Vettel in 1st and Raikkonen in 2nd. Lewis Hamilton rounded up the top 3, with both Red Bull drivers close behind. A good session for McLaren with both cars finishing in the top 10 and a surprise for Manor with Wehrlein in 13th.

Sebastian Vettel had a huge spin, although not too much damage done to the Ferrari. Despite the spin, he still finished in 4th. Team-mate, Raikkonen, finished in 8th. Vettel will take a 5-Place-Grid-Penalty following Qualifying due to a gearbox change.

Austrian GP: Free Practice 1 - Re-Cap & Times

AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX - FREE PRACTICE #1

The first session got underway with clouds looming overhead. No sign of rain yet but there is a potential for it. Mercedes led the session with Nico Rosberg topping the time sheets in 1st with a 1:07.303. A time much quicker than last year. Hamilton finished in 2nd and Vettel in the Ferrari rounded up the top 3.

Daniel Ricciardo and Marcus Ericsson had a close call while Ericsson was heading for pit-lane. He momentarily lost control of the car and went over the white line. Ricciardo was near by and the two nearly collided. Ericsson was later investigated for the incident.

Max Verstappen ended up missing quite a lot of the session after he ran over one of the new yellow kerbs and lost a piece of his front wing and ended up with suspension damage. He spun into the gravel and that was his session over. He wasn't the only driver to spin in the session. Ricciardo, Kvyat, Hamilton and Grosjean all also had a spin or two but managed to get back on track.

Alfonso Celis sat in for Sergio Perez at Force India. Celis has multiple FP1 outings in his contract this year and is hoping to be a candidate for a future drive with the team. Perez is currently being linked to Ferrari rumours since his recent podiums in Monaco and Baku.
