Free Practice 3 got off to quite a start for McLaren-Honda as Alonso barely made it on to the track before his car came to a halt. The session was yellow flagged as track marshals rolled his car away and it was returned to the garages. Alonso was never able to make it back out for the session unfortunately. However, team-mate Jenson Button was able to rack in a few good laps, finishing the session in 15th.
Both Williams drivers were also experiencing problems. Felipe Massa reported smoke in the cockpit while Bottas, who headed out in the beginning of the session, suddenly aborted his lap and headed back in, not returning to the track for quite awhile. However, both drivers were able to set relatively good times.
It was another Mercedes 1-2 with Hamilton leading the times-sheets, despite reporting a "hot seat" and coming into the garage for a seat change.
