Pre-Season Test #2 - Barcelona Day 4 - Times & Re-Cap

With no rain in sight, the last day of the first test at Barcelona got underway. Nico Rosberg was first to cause Red Flags when he spun out into the gravel much like Sebastian Vettel did in the Ferrari the previous day. Mercedes were able to get Rosberg out a half hour later with no serious damage to the car.

Sauber was delayed for the morning session due to mechanical issues. Nasr had stopped in the pit-lane and later towards the end of the day, the car stopped on track.

Right before the AM session was over, Fernando Alonso was involved in a heavy crash when the McLaren hit a wall in a run-off area of the track. Alonso was OK and conscious after the accident and was taken to a local hospital. He has suffered a concussion and is remaining in the hospital overnight.

McLaren discontinued their running for the day after the accident but had originally planned for Jenson Button to take over in the PM session.

Carlos Sainz later crashed in the same area and was taken to the track's medical center and was cleared to leave shortly after.

Here are the final times from Day 4:

1. Romain Grosjean - 1:24.067 / Lotus-Mercedes
2. Nico Rosberg - 1:24.321 / Mercedes-Mercedes

Pre-Season Test #2 - Barcelona Day 3 - Times & Re-Cap

It was a rainy 3rd day of Testing in Barcelona and the track was definitely slippery. Sebastian Vettel spun out into the gravel trap only 4 minutes into the session, causing Red Flags.

Sauber was delayed most of the morning due to a gearbox problem, which meant Marcus Ericsson was unable to get much running in.

It was another top time for Pastor Maldonado, who ended the day in 1st on the time sheets for Lotus, who seem to be benefiting from their switch to Mercedes engines.

Here are the times from Day 3:

1. Pastor Maldonado - 1:24.348 / Lotus-Renault
2. Max Verstappen - 1:24.739 / Toro Rosso-Renault

Pre-Season Test #1 - Jerez Day 2 - Times & Re-Cap

It was another successful day of testing at the Jerez circuit in Spain. Some teams had a clean and easy day while others struggled with mechanical issues. The weather also made things a bit tricky when it began to rain about 4 hours into the session.

Lotus had arrived and Pastor Maldonado, who didn't get to drive on Day 1, was able to finally get the E23 out on track and take it around for a total of 41 laps.

As for Red Bull, their day of testing was made tricky when Daniil Kvyat had a small off and the front wing was damaged. They continued to run the car without the front wing but Kvyat never set a timed lap. This was also the only front wing Red Bull had brought to Jerez, but they plan to have a new one delivered.

Here are the final session times from Day 2:

1. Sebastian Vettel - 1:20.984 / Ferrari-Ferrari
2. Felipe Nasr - 1:21.867 / Sauber-Ferrari
3. Valtteri Bottas - 1:22.319 / Williams-Mercedes
4. Lewis Hamilton - 1:22.490 / Mercedes-Mercedes
5. Max Verstappen - 1:24.167 / Toro Rosso-Renault
6. Pastor Maldonado - 1:28.802 / Lotus-Mercedes
7. Jenson Button - 1:54.655 / McLaren-Honda
8. Daniil Kvyat - No Time Set / Red Bull-Renault

Pre-Season Test #1 - Jerez Day 1 - Times & Re-Cap

F1 is officially back.. Well, sort of. The first race of the year might not be until March, but Winter Testing has begun and it's time to re-cap day 1 of Jerez.

Both Mercedes and Williams launched their 2015 livery in the pit-lane, while later on the new Red Bull was driven out of the garage by Daniel Ricciardo, showing off the special "Test-Livery" which included the car sporting a black and white "camo" paint job.

Lotus was absent for the day as they were still in the midst of shipping their things to Jerez. They're currently unsure if they will run on Monday either.

What we know so far from testing is that the cars seem to he having less issues than seen in 2014's pre-season test, which saw quite the amount of cars stopping on track.

Force India, as many know have opted out of running at Jerez. Also absent are Marussia and Caterham and it's uncertain if they will be able to make 2015's grid after multiple financial issues.

Here are the times from Day 1:

1. Sebastian Vettel - 1:22.620 / Ferrari-Ferrari
2. Marcus Ericsson - 1:22.777 / Sauber-Ferrari
3. Nico Rosberg - 1:23.106 / Mercedes-Mercedes
4. Daniel Ricciardo - 1:23.338 / Red Bull-Renault
5. Valtteri Bottas - 1:23.906 / Williams-Mercedes
6. Carlos Sainz - 1:25.327 / Toro Rosso-Renault
7. Fernando Alonso - 1:40.738 / McLaren-Honda

Belgian GP: Free Practice 2 - Re-Cap & Results

Free Practice 2 - Results

Weather stayed dry for the second session of Practice at Spa-Francorchamps, but that didn't mean that there were not going to be any accidents.

Pastor Maldonado spun off and ended up with the Lotus going into the wall at Pouhon. He was alright, but that ended his session way early.

Sebastian Vettel did not compete in the second session after a turbo/exhaust issue ended his run 5 minutes early in FP1. The team has decided to use the engine from Hungary to escape a 6th engine penalty. However, they can't avoid it for long.

Max Chilton, who has returned and will now indeed be racing this weekend, was also experiencing turbo issues.

Esteban Gutierrez found himself unlucky in the session when the Sauber spun out about halfway through the session, with a gearbox problem. We're not sure if the team is changing the gearbox or not, but as always, we'll be covering FP3 on our twitter @F1Insider78 - So make sure to follow us for updates prior to the session.

Free Practice 2 - Re-Cap & Results

The second free practice session was full of interesting things, including the fact there was a record temp' for this season. The track temperature got up to a whopping 58° C. The super-soft tyres nearly turned to chewing gum out on the hot surface of the circuit.

Caterham had a handful of problems when Marcus Ericsson encountered an oil pressure problem and not long later, his team-mate, Kamui Kobayashi's car caught fire and he hopped out and even helped put out the flames! Go Kamui! Always great to see a driver lend a hand to the hard-working marshals and firefighters. Good sportsmanship is game.

German GP: Free Practice 1 - Re-Cap & Results

Free Practice 1:

Hope you all are enjoying the race weekend so far, and we've just gotten done with FP1, so time for a quick re-cap before the second session starts. As always, you can follow us on our twitter @F1Insider78 for our LIVE commentary-coverage!

So, this session was started with all teams having removed their FRIC suspension systems after they were investegated and shown they may be breaching the regulations of the sport. The problem with the removal is that the front end of the cars are now sliding around quite a bit, making it very hard to control the car around the sharp turns.

We had 2 reserve drivers in this session including Giedo Van Der Garde in for Esteban Gutierrez and Susie Wolff in for Valtteri Bottas. Susie started off the session only to find there were issues with the car, which Williams fixed quickly to get her back out for the rest of the session.

Other people having car troubles included Kimi Raikkonen with a water-pump issue and some smoke coming out of the rear of Max Chilton's Marussia. At the end of the session Lewis Hamilton reported 'Low power' with his Mercedes. But that didn't hamper their performance as it was another Mercedes AMG 1-2 result.

Here are the rest of the times.

Malaysian GP: Race - Re-Cap & Results

The Malaysian GP is now finished and done for the year. Thousands of people showed up despite the sadness looming over the country due to the recent Malaysian Airlines missing plane, which had hundreds of people aboard. May I just start by saying my thoughts and prayers are with the people affected by the situation. It is a true tragedy and I'm hoping they will soon recover the plane.

So, now, where shall I begin? Before the race even started there was problems. The Force India of Sergio Perez was having problems and then it was said he'd start from the pit lane. However, as things were about to get underway, Sergio climbed out the car, stuck in 4th gear and having no way to fix the problem, he was forced to retire before he'd even begun. People, (Including me) were absolutely shocked and saddened by this. One of the most disappointing things is when a driver can't even start the race and this unfortunately does happen.

The lights then went out and at the first turn, Kevin Magnussen tried to pass Kimi Raikkonen and in result, ended up hitting the World Champion Fin, damaging his car and his own McLaren as well. Around the same time, Jules Bianchi made contact with Pastor Maldonado and they both did a little spin. Luckily, both were able to continue for a bit, but after awhile, Maldonado had to retire as did Bianchi.

Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton, who started on pole, was now leading, with Vettel, Rosberg, Hulkenberg and Alonso all somewhere close behind him. The biggest battle during the whole race was that of Fernando Alonso and Nico Hulkenberg. It was really quite the show.

Later on it was Jean-Eric Vergne who had issues with the Turbo and was forced to retire from the race, while his team-mate, 19-Year-Old Daniil Kvyat was in the top 10 and gaining on the Williams' drivers. Both Saubers had to retire as well a bit later on, the first double retirement for the Sauber team in years.

Daniel Ricciardo, who was called in for a pit-stop, had horrible luck when one of the mechanics was not done fastening his front-left tyre, and the crew released him, not noticing what was going on. Daniel had to be pushed back to get the wheel fastened before he could head back out, but due to all the commotion, when the Aussie got back out on the circuit, his front wing came loose and fell in a slanted position, cutting into his front-right tyre, making a deep cut, all around. He was called back into the pit-lane and had things fixed, but retired only a few laps later.

On the last few laps, there was BIG drama between the two Williams' drivers, when the team radioed Massa, telling him that Bottas was faster and to not hold him up. He was told multiple times to let Bottas pass, but did not obey orders. Something identical to what happened between Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber last year. Another case of Multi-21 disobeyed.

It was Lewis Hamilton who brought home the win of the Malaysian GP and dedicated his win to everyone affected by the flight MH370 tragedy. His Team-Mate, Nico Rosberg finished in Second while Defending-4-Time-World-Champion, Sebastian Vettel, came in Third. Here are the rest of the results.

RACE RESULTS:

1. Lewis Hamilton / Mercedes / Great Britain - +25 Points

Malaysian GP: Qualifying - Re-Cap & Results

When Qualifying got underway, so did the rain! Originally scheduled for 11 PM my time, it did not actually start for around 45 minutes as the rain was coming down pretty hard and there was a lot of sitting water on the track that had to be cleared before the cars could come out and set times.

So, for those of you who are not familiar with how Qualifying works, let me take you through it! There is 3 rounds of Qualifying and they're all done within an hour or so. The first round, all 22 cars go out and set lap times, the 6 slowest are knocked out and start the race on their grid positions according to the speed of their times. In round 2, the rest of the cars go out and another 6 get knocked out, and they'll start where there times put them as well. That leaves the last 10 cars to go around for Round 3, those ten battle for pole position, which is the very front of the Grid. It's the starting position everyone wants. So, here's how it played out.

Round 1: Knocked out -Marcu Ericsson (Caterham), Max Chilton (Marussia), Kamui Kobayashi (Caterham), Jules Bianchi (Marussia), Adrian Sutil (Sauber) & Pastor Maldonado (Lotus).

Round 2: Knocked out - Romain Grosjean (Lotus), Valtteri Bottas (Williams), Sergio Perez (Force India), Felipe Massa (Williams), Esteban Gutierrez (Sauber), & Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso)

Results After Round 3:

1. (Pole Position) - Lewis Hamilton / Mercedes / Great Britain
2. Sebastian Vettel / Redbull / Germany
3. Nico Rosberg / Mercedes / Germany
4. Fernando Alonso / Ferrari / Spain
5. Daniel Ricciardo / Redbull / Australia
6. Kimi Raikkonen / Ferrari / Finland
7. Nico Hulkenberg / Force India / Germany
8. Kevin Magnussen / McLaren / Denmark
9. Jean-Eric Vergne / Toro Rosso / France
10. Jenson Button / McLaren / Great Britain
11. Daniil Kvyat / Toro Rosso / Russia
12. Esteban Gutierrez / Sauber / Mexico
13. Felipe Massa / Williams / Brazil
14. Sergio Perez / Force India / Mexico
15. Valtteri Bottas / Williams / Finland
16. Romain Grosjean / Lotus / France
17. Pastor Maldonado / Lotus / Venezuela
18. Adrian Sutil / Sauber / Germany
19. Jules Bianchi / Marussia / France
20. Kamui Kobayashi / Caterham / Japan
21. Max Chilton / Marussia / Great Britain
22. Marcus Ericsson / Caterham / Sweden

After qualifying, Valtteri Bottas was given a 3-Place-Grid-Penalty for impeding Daniel Ricciardo during Qualifying, in turn Bottas was demoted to 18th, moving Grosjean, Maldonado and Sutil each up a spot on the grid.

Malaysian GP: Free Practice 3 - Re-Cap & Results

So, during Free Practice 3, we saw The Mclaren-Mercedes team have issues with their Power Units and Kevin Magnussen was unable to set a time, meanwhile the Mercedes AMG Petronas team managed to get the top 2 spots on the times sheets. Not too much action going on in this round, as it's usually when teams make final set-up changes and make sure things are running smoothly. There's not too much want to go crazy and accidently mess up the car before Qualifying, so teams try to keep things calm. Here are the times from Session #3.

TIMES:

1. Nico Rosberg - 1:39.008 / Mercedes
2. Lewis Hamilton - 1:39.240 / Mercedes

Bahrain Testing Day 2 - Re-Cap

Last night day 2 of testing at Bahrain International Circuit got underway and let's get straight to the results & re-cap.

We opened with a Red Flag when Nico Rosberg's Mercedes stopped out on the circuit and had to be aken back to the pits to be worked on. The Mercedes crew put up screens around the garage to shield people from seeing what they were doing. Once it was Green Flag, things started out slow, other than Jean-Eric Vergne getting out there and completing a double-figure amount of laps for the Toro Rosso team.

Eventually, Day 1's fastest driver, Nico Hulkenberg was sent out to do some laps in the Force India, but after the 8 hour session was over, he was beat by McLaren's Kevin Magnussen, who stole fastest time with a 1:34s, pushing Nico to the second fastest spot.

We had a few more red flags during the session, when Vergne's car stopped and a bit later, it was Esteban's Sauber that also stopped and the Cherry Picker came out to return the car to the pits.

Other than that, another good day of running for all 11 teams, as they all set times this time, and here they are!

Fastest Times:

1. Kevin Magnussen - 1:34.910 / McLaren
2. Nico Hulkenberg - 1:36.445 / Force India

Bahrain Testing Day 1 - Re-Cap.

Thanks to all who joined me last night on Twitter for my live commentary of Day 1 at Bahrain International Circuit! Here's a quick re-cap of what happened. Also, I'm live right now on Twitter for Day 2 and also chatting on Autosport.com in the live Forum Chat under Day 2 of Bahrain testing.

Re-Cap: Day 1 at Bahrain International Circuit started out with a few woes as the session was delayed while waiting for enough Marshalls to be around the circuit and then Fernando Alonso's Ferrari stopped out on track, before he was able to bring it back to the garage. Redbull had to delay their run as well as Toro Rosso, with theirs being due to some sort of oil leaks. Sutil in the Sauber also stopped on the circuit, and had be to removed and taken back to the pits. Other than that, things ran pretty smoothly and here are your times!
