Austrian GP: Free Practice 1 - Re-Cap & Results

An overall good Practice Session for most although there were a few unlucky drivers.

It's not a good start to the F1 week for Red Bull. It's their home race and both drivers are facing a 10-place-grid-penalty for engine/component changes.

Fernando Alonso has been handed a 20-place-grid-penalty for multiple component changes including an ICE change. However, it's impossible to take a full 20-place-grid-penalty so depending on how much of his penalty he can take, he will either receive a time penalty added to his final race time or he will have to take a drive-through penalty during the race. Alonso sat out most of the session while his McLaren-Honda was worked on after it stopped during one of his first out laps.

Sebastian Vettel missed most of the session after his Ferrari stopped out on track and they weren't able to get it back out. His team-mate, Raikkonen, finished the session in 3rd while Mercedes topped the 1-2 positions.

Jolyon Palmer drove for Lotus in this session in place of French driver, Romain Grosjean. Palmer will also take part in the next 4 Free Practice 1 sessions. He finished this one in 14th. Maldonado finished 12th.
